National Pipe Company Ltd. was envisioned by the Sumitomo Group of Japan together with Saudi investors to serve oil, gas, water and construction during the Kingdom's industrialisation.

National Pipe Company Ltd. (NPC) is the biggest and the first large diameter carbon steel line pipe manufacturing company in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to obtain API licenses in API 5L-0140 (1980) and API 2B-0073 (2004). It is a joint venture between Saudi investors 49% and Japanese investors (Nippon Steel Sumitomo Metal Corporation) 51%, with a capitalization of SR 200 million.
Annual capacity is 430,000 metric tons — 250,000 MT helical (HSAW) and 180,000 MT longitudinal (LSAW) — for oil, gas, water, construction and structural applications, tailor-made to customer requirements.

Helical mill completed — 180,000 MT/year. API 5L monogram granted.
2001
Longitudinal mill starts commercial production — 180,000 MT/year.
2007
Helical mill upgraded to 84″ and 250,000 MT/year.
2011
4,000,000 MT cumulative helical production achieved.
